Western Digital has been making some of the best SSD cards that can be used to upgrade a PlayStation 5’s storage capacity and that’s why it was chosen to manufacture the official versions.

Licensed by PlayStation, the WD_Black SN850 NVMe card comes with a heatsink and the 1TB model is now 44% cheaper on Amazon. That means you can pick one up for less than £100.

Considering it’s usually £179.99, at £99.99 it gives you a massive saving of £70.

WD_Black SN850 1TB NVMe SSD for PS5

The officially licensed SN850 for PlayStation 5 increases the console’s storage by more than double and runs much faster (7,000MB/s) than the minimum spec.

Why buy the WD_Black SN850 PlayStation 5 SSD?

Although the PS5 edition WD_Black SN850 is pretty much the same as the regular SN850 with heatsink, it has been officially tested and certified by Sony Interactive Entertainment for use inside its console.

Its heatsink is built onto the exterior and the card is capable of read speeds of up to 7,000MB/s. It can also write data onto the SSD at up to 5,300MB/s – exceeding the minimum specifications set by the PlayStation team.

It also comes with a blue zone on the heatsink, rather than WD_Black’s usually orange/red.

Like all M.2 PCIe Gen4x4 NVMe SSDs, it is easy to install inside the PS5… you just need to remove one of the faceplates and there is an easy-access panel underneath.

You can see the instructions on how to do it in the official video below.
