AEW Fight Forever, the long awaited wrestling game based on WWE rival organisation, will finally be released in June.

Publisher THQ Nordic has informed GamesLifer that the game will be available from 29 June 2023 on all formats.

“With Fight Forever, Kenny [Omega] and our world-class team have delivered an authentic, nostalgic feel of wrestling games past, along with the unmatched creativity that AEW brings to the table. It’s going to be cool to see our fans finally getting a fresh and much-needed alternative next-gen console wrestling game,” said AEW CEO, Tony Khan.

There’s a lot of hype around this particular wrestling game. Not only is it the first AEW licensed game and, notably, the first genuine competitor to the WWE games series, it has been developed by former WWE game studio Yuke’s.

Visual Concepts took over that particular franchise in 2019 and, it must be said, made a right pig’s ear out of its first attempt. Thankfully, the follow-ups were significantly better, leading to an excellent latest outing in WWE 2K23. AEW Fight Forever has to pull out a lot of stops to compete, therefore.

Based on the gameplay videos and track record of the Japanese developer, we have high hopes that it will. As with AEW’s in-ring philosophy, there will be a significant focus on tag-team matches, especially online. And, Yuke’s has been remodelling its core wrestling engine for a fair few years.

As for the numerous delays, it is thought that CM Punk’s media outburst and subsequent real-life backstage brawl with The Elite lead to Yuke’s having to remove his considerable presence from within the game. Ironically, there are rumours that he’ll return to AEW for new Saturday night TV show, AEW Collision days before the game is now tipped to release. Them’s the breaks.

AEW Fight Forever will be available for last and current-gen consoles, plus PC on 29 June 2023 – that’s PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Windows, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
