PS5 Pro and new Xbox Series X inevitable, says Take-Two

Take-Two's CEO believes that we'll get mid-generation versions of the current PlayStation and Xbox consoles, much like before. It isn't necessarily a bad thing, neither.

There has been a lot of talk about a PlayStation 5 Pro in recent times, with expectations that Sony will upgrade its current-gen PS5 console in the coming year. However, we’ve had no confirmation on such plans and it’s all just speculation at present.

Someone possibly be more in the know is the CEO of Take-Two Interactive – the company that owns Rockstar and 2K Games – who believes that a mid-generation update for the PS5 and Xbox Series X is “likely”.

Speaking to GamesIndustry.biz, Strauss Zelnick stated that “we probably will” see hardware refreshes from both companies. He also claimed that, like the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X, it won’t affect Take-Two’s business much – it’ll likely continue to sell as many games as before.

Will Grand Theft Auto 6 be released in 2024?

During the interview, Zelnick also dropped the delicious hint that the very long-awaited GTA6 could finally make an appearance next year. He certainly confirmed that it won’t be available in 2023 or early 2024.

Referring to the company’s fiscal year 25 (which starts in April next year), he teased that sales could be boosted by some exciting new games: “In fiscal 25, we expect to see some great successes,” he said.

There are currently 36 titles slated for release in 2024/25, so hopefully the next Grand Theft Auto will be one of them. And, if other estimations are correct, it might even be available on PS5 Pro and whatever Xbox calls its next machine.

We’re keeping all our fingers and toes crossed.
