After several attempts to make their diaries match, episode 4 of the GamesLifer Podcast finally sees Rik reunite with the host of GamesMaster himself, Dominik Diamond.
It’s a major event too, running for almost two hours and featuring a fair few stories never told before. And, considering the two have barely spoken for 25 years or so, there’s a giggle or two along the way.
In the extended edition, you get to hear a great mix of five of Diamond’s most memorable games, plus a whole tonne of GamesMaster anecdotes. The duo also discuss GamesMaster: The Oral History – the book co-written with Jack Templeton that every fan of the 90s show should certainly pick up.
GamesMaster: The Oral History by Dominik Diamond and Jack Templeton
GamesMaster: The Oral History presents Dominik Diamond’s unique take on each season of the best video games show to appear on UK TV. Many other who appeared and worked on it contribute too (including our own Rik Henderson, of course).
As a bit of background, Rik Henderson was a co-commentator on seasons five to seven of the Channel 4 TV show, which ended in 1997. Diamond was the main host for seasons one and two, and four to seven. He is as synonymous with the programme as the GamesMaster himself, the late Sir Patrick Moore.
The show has returned recently with all-new hosts and a changed format, but there are many who remember the 90s run as establishing games on TV.
It’s also one of the reasons Rik started the GamesLifer Podcast, to talk to some of those that helped form the video games industry, including the GamesMaster team. That’s why each episode features a single guest who has either worked in gaming or been a games fan for many years.
As well as Spotify, the GamesLifer Podcast is available on Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Amazon Music, and through RSS.
You can check out the other episodes of the GamesLifer Podcast too. Previous guests include Big Boy Barry from Sky’s 90s show, Games World, Alex Verrey, the former editor of GameSpot UK, Guy Cocker, and host of the superb YouTube channel Tech Spurt, Chris Barraclough.
