Meta and Ubisoft have announced Assassin’s Creed Nexus VR, the first virtual reality game set in the Assassin’s Creed universe. However, not many details are known about it so far, with the main unveiling set to come at Ubisoft Forward on 12 June.

The announcement was made during the Meta Quest Gaming Showcase event streamed on 1 June. It confirms that the game will be available for Meta Quest headsets – including the forthcoming Meta Quest 3 – although we’d bet the house that it’ll also be available on PlayStation VR2.

Ubisoft Forward will be a live show taking place in Los Angeles shortly before E3 2023 was due to start. Unfortunately, the trade show was cancelled but the French publisher will continue with its own event, which will also showcase a few non-VR games, including Assassin’s Creed Mirage, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, and The Crew Motorfest.

There will be other showcase events over the coming week or so, with Summer Game Fest 2023 filling the void left by the absence of E3. That includes the Xbox Games Showcase for this year, plus several other online streams and game launches.

We’re interested to see how Assassin’s Creed Nexus VR works out. Parkour in a VR headset could be a tricky thing to master, especially if Ubisoft wants players to keep hold of their lunches.

We suspect there will be a significant focus on stealth and slower-paced assassination missions. That could work.

We’ll bring you more when we have it. In the meantime, you can watch the entirety of the Meta Quest Gaming Showcase below.
